“Following a difficult surgery, I spent several days in the hospital and several weeks on narcotic painkillers. Snow is a chronicle of my experience struggling to understand what had happened to me and how my life had changed unexpectedly. Most of the footage was shot during my hospital stay and during my time under the influence of painkillers. It was hand processed and hand-scratched.” (written by Tara Merenda Nelson)

Someone Behind the Door Knocks at Irregular Intervals

Julia spends the day at the leisure centre where she slips into a sombre reverie. As her thoughts continue she becomes aware of the possibility that perhaps she never came here at all. Outside in the sun, the stillness changes the road, it’s inherent notion of speed has dissipated, allowing the surface to be felt. The film suggests ideas of non-activity and meditation, memory and perception. It explores the relationship between contemplation and the act of looking.

Sonderkommando: The Living Dead of Auschwitz

A chilling documentary for which Holocaust survivor Henryk Mandelbaum returned to Auschwitz to talk about the horrific year he spent as a ‘‘Sonderkommando’’, a slave labourer forced to search and burn the corpses of fellow Jews murdered in the gas chambers. Until his death in 2008, Mandelbaum was one of very few Sonderkommando to have survived the death camps, execution as collaborators by the Soviets and later reprisals by other Jews. The stories he tells and the photographs used are stomach-churning.

Son of God

The directors want to shoot a film about a man known as the son of god. But what starts out as a practical joke, extends to become a curious portrait of what could either be a petty fraud or the world’s most secret miracle. A film crew tracks his bizarre pilgrimage as magic and religion, faith and doubt, real and unreal blur and melt to the point that one of the director becomes one of the characters. The film traverses all descriptions, before ending as both an affirmation of faith for the faithless and a criticism of faith for the overly faithful.
