A Family Is a Family Is a Family: A Rosie O'Donnell Celebration

What is a family? Rosie O'Donnell looks at the many answers to this question in this documentary that features original songs and thoughtful kids musing on love and family. The show provides a less than moving portrait of the remarkable diversity of so called families today, including same-sex parents, mixed-heritage families, and stories of adoption. Animated songs and musical performances by kids and families spice up the festivities along with performances and recordings by artists including Ziggy Marley, Bonnie Raitt, Doris Day, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Frank Sinatra, Rosie O'Donnell and They Might Be Giants.

Strike

It begins with a blank screen. The word ‘STRIKE’ appears across it, in white capital letters against a black background. Then a woman appears, dressed in black. She approaches an empty LCD monitor and strikes its undifferentiated surface once with a chisel, leaving a multi-coloured web of fractures across it, before everything fades (back) to black. It’s all over in less than 30 seconds. Then it starts again.

Stuck on a Sunday

Who are the Sunday Family? They appear to have discovered the secret of permanent happiness...and they live in a perpetual Sunday. But all that is set to change when an apparently harmless Beast turns up out of the blue. One by one everyone will discover that even paradise has its problems... A short teaser designed & directed by MARC CRASTE for an animated opera created by composer MARC TEITLER and writers TIMOTHY WALKER & JASON MORELL in partnership with The Royal Opera House and made with the support of the BFI.

Studies for the Decay of the West

Wyborny’s latest flicker film concentrates on factories, industrial wastelands, waterways, cityscapes, and the bits in between, and has an uncanny emotional resonance. It is “serene, in the manner of ants”—to quote the title of the second section—but it is also elegiac and melancholy. Like two other old cranks (Godard and Straub), the director stays true to ideas about filmic composition gestated over many years and thereby provides a glimpse of a utopian cinema.

Summer Snapshot

A poetic ode to a carefree summer day at a mountain river where a group of friends in their 20s drive winding forest roads, hike a secret trail, and spend a sun-soaked afternoon skinny-dipping, strumming guitars, and circling a campfire.

sum of the parts: what can be named

The eighteen minute video recounts the ‘disremembered’ journey of the Bowen family from its earliest documented history in Clinton, Jones County, Georgia in 1815, as told by Bowen herself.
