András Schiff plays Bach

Surely Bach’s French Suites, which he composed during his years at Cöthen (1717–1723), are among the finest inducements to practise that any teacher has ever made to a pupil. In this case Bach wrote them for his young wife, Anna Magdalena. The over-riding impression left by these suites is one of endearing tunefulness. Clavier-Übung II is a later collection of didactic keyboard pieces. It comprises two greatly contrasted works: the Italian Concerto and the Overture in the French Style. These performances admirably demonstrate the thoughtful and persuasive approach that András Schiff adopts when performing Bach. Recorded live at the Bachfest 2010, Protestant Reformed Church of Leipzig, 11 June 2010 Repertoire J.S. Bach: French Suites Nos. 1–6, Overture in the French Style in B minor, Italian Concerto in F major, BWV 971

Villatalla

"Film shots and sound recordings over the course of one month in a remote mountain village in Liguria. I do not work with the illusion of the synchronisation of image and sound, but with the idea that these 2 dimensions do exist as realities independent of each other, and as such do in fact emerge in our consciousness. The world in Villatalla is not showcased but simply lived. The few remaining inhabitants pursue the few remaining work. Social life happens in a beautiful slowness of the present." Jeannette Muñoz.

Visiting Atlantis

In many documentaries it is suggested — usually in the title — that Atlantis was found. Only to discover a little later that actually nothing was found. Much was written about Atlantis. It is said Atlantis was a magnificent island in the Atlantic Ocean. Sometimes — depending on the fantasy of the writer — it is moved to the Mediterranean Sea. Sometimes people look for it in the Indian Ocean, or on the South Pole — any exotic location will do. In great depths of the ocean it has disappeared forever. But what people forget conveniently: we only have one reliable source to Atlantis. This is Plato, the great Greek Philosopher. Two explorers George S. Alexander and Natalis Rosen follow closely in this documentary the ancient writings of Plato. That is how they found the Lost City of Atlantis. One by one they solve Plato’s riddles, uncovering the evidence which links Atlantis to a desolate area, virtually untouched by modern man.
