A heavily sweating man, returning from a long trip, is telephoning from his car to speak to his wife. But he gets his daughter on the line. Lisette is constantly asking questions and tells about a drawing she made, but all the man is asking for is to get her mother. It seems he desperately wants to speak her, for what might be the last time. When Lisette is getting her mother out of the backyard, the man is still talking, telling Lisette should say to her mother he loves her. The sound of an approaching ambulance can be heard. When his wife finally gets on the phone, it's only a remarkable short conversation. She's asking him about his flight and to come back soon because Lisette misses him much. What is going on?

Song of the Canefields
Hirayama Koichi and his wife Michiko eloped from Osaka to Okinawa, where they lived happily with their five children. When war erupts, their eldest son is drafted into the Imperial army. As fighting spreads, the family takes refuge far from the city, but soon, child after child is drafted to serve in various branches of the military and in organizations supporting the war cause. Koichi himself is faced with a moral dilemma when he is ordered to kill a wounded American soldier.

Just your ordinary video store around the corner: A woman enters, grabs a videotape and goes to the counter. She pulls a gun and asks for money. "Quick, quick, quick!" The cashier looks anxious and hands over the money. But just when she turns around to walk away, the cashier pulls a shotgun and fires. Is it for real? Apparently not, because someone shouts: Stop! and we suddenly find ourselves on a film set. The director seems to disagree however with the decision to stop shooting. She reflects on the situation. Then, just few moments later, the director is lying in bed. Was the film set real? Was it fiction?
