For many Americans, the journey of the Mayflower symbolizes the birth of their nation. To this day, the Pilgrim Fathers are a glorified symbol of American virtue. In search of autonomy and with the desire to preserve their cultural identity, a group of English Puritans left their Dutch refuge in 1620 to set off for the New World. That voyage is not just a tale of a religious community bravely going their own way; the events of those days would have a major impact on the course of modern history. The rules and regulations of the Mayflower Compact that the Pilgrim Fathers, religious sectarians, abided by, became the secular prototype for the constitution of the United States of America; a social contract that would serve as an example for many other national constitutions during the European age of civil society and thereafter.

Jules Massenet: Manon

Director Vincent Paterson creates an energetic staging with dramatic visual magnificence of Jules Massenet's opera "Manon," which is set in France and Louisiana in the early 18th century. Soprano Anna Netrebko and tenor Rolando Villazón deliver mesmerizing performances in a story about two lovers finally brought together, but ultimately torn apart. Conductor Daniel Barenboim leads the Staatskapelle Berlin in a passionate melodic presentation.

A documentary about the talented young guitar player and songwriter Juraj Revicky. He was a part of the generation of young people who were not prepared for the bad and the good that came to our country after the Velvet Revolution. In 1998, he was found dead of a heroin overdose in the Stoka theatre. He was 19. In spite of his short life, he left his work, which even today, after a period of time, is still extraordinary. Although he wasn’t famous, and we will never know what he could have achieved, at least, he left deep memories in the people, who knew him. He was a central character of a community of young, open-minded people and his band Pigura was their connecting point. That was Bratislava (Slovak republic) in the 90s.
